David Leeds in his Los Angeles studio

David Leeds received an A. B. degree from Harvard in Fine Arts, and an MFA degree from UCLA in film production.

Early in his career, David wrote and directed the cult western, Shoot The Sun Down, starring Christopher Walken and Margot Kidder, in addition to several docu-dramas.

David has also studied poetry for many years, most notably, under Jack Gilbert. Both his poetry and short stories have been published in different journals and platforms.

David first started painting in a representational style. After a few years, he transitioned to larger, Abstract Expressionist pieces. He eventually took a sculpting class at the communal studio facility where he worked, and has since, dedicated himself exclusively to sculpture. He worked for a number of years in clay and bronze. David then studied stone carving for five years at the Art Students League, in New York, under the renowned sculptor, Lorrie Goulet.

David and his wife, the painter, Kathy Leeds, recently moved to Ojai. David’s studio is now at Art City, in Ventura.
